I have received well over 3-5 announcements like this, phrased almost exactly the same way. The senders have acted surprise...

I've received above 35 invitations such as this, phrased almost exactly the same manner. The senders have acted offended and amazed that I did not jump to benefit from this invitation. If people desire to dig up more on http://www.linkedin.com/in/keith-mckittrick-790261b/, there are many online resources people should investigate.

Let's consider the dilemmas within this invitation from the marketing point of view.

* The majority of the invitations I received were from individuals whose names I did not understand. Why would I wish to be part of their community? The request doesn't say who they're, who they have access to and how I would benefit from their system.

* What is Linked In, how can it work and what're the benefits of using it? No body has yet explained this clearly in their invitation. You can't expect that somebody receiving this request understands what you are asking them to participate or how it'd be good for them. It would be useful to have a sentence or two explaining how it works and citing a particular result anyone behind the invitation loved from membership. It could be that people believe that since 'basic membership is free,' the normal beneficiary with this request will proceed and join. But even though it will not charge money, time would be taken by joining. You still need to 'sell' people on taking a free action, particularly with respect to a task or business that may be different to them.

* No body took the time to head off possible misunderstandings or objections to the membership. As I am concerned that joining would open me up to a lot of e-mail and phone calls that would spend my time and in which I'd have no interest, a non-member of Linked-in. Again, you can't believe that anything free is thus enticing; you need to imagine why some-one could have questions or dismiss the idea and address those arguments.

* Using a canned request that's almost the exact same as everyone else's does not make a good impression. You had desire to give it your own personal stamp, even if the text provided by Linked-in were successful, which it's not.

Other than being irritated that they are apparently encouraging individuals to send invitations that make little sense, I have nothing against Linked In. Perhaps it is an useful business. My position is that its members should use common sense and basic marketing axioms to promote busy, cynical visitors to give it the opportunity..
